Irrigation of our fields at Hay Day Farm

Because our grass grows all winter on our fully irrigated land, we'll have a more steady supply of hay.

WHAT MAKES THE BEST HAY?

Start with a hard grass that has an ideal sized stem and lots of leaves.

Most Florida hay is soft grass having low protein and low sugar, or genetically engineered grass that has large stems like small sticks with few leaves.

Hay Day Farm started with a Midwestern Bermuda hard grass with ideal sized stem of 1/16” to 1/8”, loaded with leaves, high protein of 21%, and high digestibility. Due to Florida’s high humidity and extreme rainfall at times, this grass could not adapt to our climate and died off except for a few clumps here and there in the field. According to an U of F ag agent, the surviving grass apparently had adapted to our climate thru mutation. What we thought was a tremendous disappointment at the time, turned out to be our “miracle grass”.

We at HDF took those few clumps, propagated it and continued to develop it learning the best way to grow it thru much research, trial and error, but with God’s help came up with our own HDF grass which we call “Florage”.  Part of the miracle is that it’s 21% protein, high in sugar and digestibility according to our testing lab, Dairy One of New York State, who does our yearly analysis.

CUSTOMER TESTIMONIALS

One of our long time customers from Venice, FL, told us he was feeding T & A before using our Florage. He placed both T&A and Florage for the horses feeding at the same time. They ate all the Florage and left the T&A.  He says Florage is the ONLY Florida grown hay he has fed his 28 horses where they maintain and even gain weight without feeding any supplement.

Many people with older horses say this is the only hay they will feed them.

The animals eat all of this hay – and feel satisfied after eating Florage.  Later, after feeding on Florage for a period, and having their nutritional needs met, they actually maintain or gain weight on less hay than on any other hay they’ve eaten.

WHY OUR CUSTOMERS ARE SAYING WHAT THEY’RE SAYING

FLORAGE NUTRITION TRANSLATES TO:  LITTLE or NO ADDITIONAL SUPPLEMENTS

Most all farmland is now depleted of vital minerals and microbes- which break down any minerals that are in the soil.

HDF not only fertilizes with the standard fertilizer used on a hay crop, but we re-mineralize our soil with trace minerals, plus we apply soil microbes which are needed to break down all the fertilizer and minerals to make them available to the plant. Because these same microbes enter the animal’s digestive system, and continues to break down the feed they eat, the nutrients from the feeds are available for that animal to utilize.
Thus they are satisfied, healthy animals.
